An awkward situation for the other driver

An awkward situation for the other driver

Confrontation was narrowly avoided in the Sydney CBD last night, as two drivers waiting at the corner of George and King St glanced over at one another uncomfortably while waiting for the lights to change. The exchange of looks, which took place over a two second period, seemed an eternity for anxious bystanders crossing the street.

“I’ve seen it a million times before” one witness told our metropolitan reporter. “It starts with the whole ‘What are you staring at mate? You wanna go [sic]?’ Then it erupts into a full-scale brawl.”

“I was a bit hopeful to see a bit of biff, but I’m sure there’ll be another fight to watch around the corner.”

Often resulting in violence, or the occasional street race, research suggests that stare-offs between cars are becoming a common occurrence in the Sydney area. Police are worried by the trend, and are advising drivers to ‘keep their hands at a 10-2 position, their eyes forward, and their revving to a minimum’.

“We’ve seen an increasing number of these awkward glances reported to us by concerned members of the public” Constable Jason Delmar told WPN. “What starts off as a simple look to the right can often result in an enduring sense of distress, and feelings of anxiety while waiting for the lights to turn green.”

“We’re advising members of the public to avoid these types of situations – unless your name is Vin Diesel.”

Following the stand-off one of the drivers laughed off any suggestion of tension between the two vehicles, telling us “It’s all good, he saw this bad-boy I’m driving and knew he didn’t have a chance”, tapping his 1990 Daihatsu Charade. “It’s just too bad there weren’t any girls in the car, it’s a real babe magnet.”
