Conservative student groups are outraged at
recent studies showing widespread academic bias towards left-leaning students, and
revelations that holding conservative views may lead to poorer grades. With
Young Liberal university club memberships rising across the country, some
members are taking this rare opportunity to make their voices heard.
“I studied the history of the Second World
War and events surrounding the rise of Nazi Germany, yet there was absolutely no
focus on the good things Hitler achieved” one UWS Young Liberal told us. “I
mean sure, attempting to exterminate the Jews is terrible and all, but his organisation
and cataloging skills were first class!”
“At least he wasn’t a dirty commie”
Leading the charge is 20 year-old Charles Chesterham,
a student at the University
of Wollongong and Young
Liberal member. “I’ve supported the Liberals for as long as I can remember. My
parents are Coalition voters, and I’m studying Law, so it was only natural that
I voted for Howard at the last election” Chesterham told WPN News. “Not like
those preposterous Arts students, holding socialist rallies and protesting for
any old reason. University is a place for learning, not free thought.”
Follwing the Coalitions electoral defeat in
2007, Chesterham and his fellow Young Liberal members are more determined than
ever to see a change in their academic environments.
“Ever since Whitlam got into power and made
university available to the masses, the elitism has completely disappeared. Even
two of our housemaids have Bachelor degrees in Arts, and our gardener a Masters
in Commerce. It’s absolutely ridiculous!”
“You’ll see, come the next Federal election
when the Coalition wins, things will be better.”
