LOLCats, currently a hot internet trend

Adelaide resident Steven O’Connell puzzled family, friends and work-colleagues today after posting a Facebook status update stating he ‘doesn’t really get the deal about cat photos’. The comment came after a marathon ‘lolcats’ posting from a friend, resulting in Steve’s entire front page to be filled with the material.

Photos of cats in a variety of different situations complimented by misspelled captions has become an internet sensation in recent years, featuring across dedicated internet sites, social networking pages and even mainstream media outlets.

Steven however fails to see the comedy behind the fad. “It’s just photos of cats with stupid writing on the photo – most of them don’t even make sense! Seriously don’t people have anything better to do online than look at photos and try to make jokes?”

Colleague and Facebook friend Ben has promised to work on changing Steven’s opinion of the cats, and overall internet comedy in general. “We’ll be showing him a wide selection of funny videos on YouTube tomorrow, particularly those laughing babies and Kanye West rant clips. Maybe even the Chris Crocker video, but we don’t really want him to abandon the internet all together.”
