Earth in 3 months With the government committed to pushing through its Emissions Trading Scheme bill despite revelations that some scientists have exaggerated climate change figures, skeptics are now pointing to conservative columnists as their main source of proof that global warming is indeed an elaborate hoax. Politicians and members of the public are now citing columns by the likes of Piers Akerman and Andrew Bolt as proof that climate change is indeed a myth, developed by the Labor spin-machine in an effort to destroy Australian society.
The ‘Climate-Gate’ scandal, as it has been referred in the media, began with the hacking of research data from the Climate Research Unit (CRU) at the University of East Anglia. Information found by the hackers, which was then posted online, supposedly contains correspondence between scientists claiming to have manipulated data to further their environmental cause.
News of the scandal spread like wildfire across the internet, with conservative columnists dedicating days to the topic, claiming it has ‘nailed the coffin of climate change shut’. Some Liberal backbenchers are expected to produce print-offs of Andrew Bolt’s blog to parliamentary hearings next week, while Senator Steve Fielding, known for his controversial CO2/temperature graph, will now carry a laminated Piers Akerman column.
